  • Bicycle parking open longer

    Starting at the beginning of this week, the bicycle parking lot on Akerstraat will again be open from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday through Saturday. On Sundays it will be from 12:00 to 18:00.

  • Memorial Day and Liberation Day in Heerlen

    On May 4, it is Remembrance Day. We then commemorate all war victims. On May 5 it's Liberation Day. We celebrate the end of the Second World War in the Netherlands. Also in Heerlen we remember these two days. The municipality organizes on May 4 in cooperation with Comité 4 en 5 mei Heerlen, Joint Neighborhood Foundations Hoensbroek and SBWM/Viergebrook a memorial meeting in Heerlen and Hoensbroek.

  • Pride Photo Exhibition on display at Van Grunsven Square

    On Saturday, April 19, the municipality of Heerlen, together with Queer Parkstad, will open the Pride Photo Exhibition on the Burgemeester van Grunsvenplein in Heerlen. The queer photography exhibition is free to visit through May 9 and concludes the national tour with Heerlen, after Amsterdam and Groningen, among others.

  • Roman cup excavated in Heerlen named Limburg Top Find 2025

    During the Limburg Archaeology Day 2025 at the Limburgs Museum, the cup inscribed FLAC was voted the Limburg Top Find! This unique find, excavated in 2024 on Raadhuisplein in Heerlen, was found in an early Roman tomb near the intersection of two Roman roads.

  • Outcomes of second-opinion investigations regarding Zuyderland

    On April 23, 2024, the municipality of Heerlen received word that as of 2030 the hospital in Heerlen will no longer have room for emergency rooms, ICUs and a birthing center. The municipality commissioned second-opinion studies. The results are known.
