City Council
The municipal council of Heerlen has 37 members. The council determines policy (in broad terms) and makes important decisions, such as setting the budget. Every month, the council members engage in debate during council meetings and committee meetings.
Distribution of seats
The 37 seats on the Heerlen City Council will be allocated as follows for the 2026–2030 term:
- OPH: 8 seats
- CDA: 6 seats
- SP: 4 seats
- Jongerenpartij : 4 seats
- FvD and GroenLinks: 3 seats each
- PVV, D66, and PHB: 2 seats each
- Hart Leers, PvdD, and VVD: 1 seat each
